At EYES.NYC, we’re here to keep your eyewear in top shape. Below are some of the most common questions we receive about our optician services—from repairs and adjustments to lens fittings and more.
Do you offer eyewear repairs, adjustments, or nose pad replacements?
Yes, we provide a wide range of in-house optician services.
Adjustments include:
- Tightening or loosening eyeglasses and sunglasses
- Aligning crooked frames
- Adjusting eyeglasses with progressive lenses for more comfortable transitions between distance, intermediate, and near vision
- Adjusting eyeglasses with astigmatism lenses to minimize distortions and improve clarity
Repairs include:
- Nose pad replacements
- Temple tip replacements
- Semi-rimless frame string replacement
- Rimless frame repairs
- Temple (arm) replacements
The majority of our repairs are free of charge, but depending on the complexity or cost of parts, a fee may apply.
Please note: We may not be able to adjust or repair very old or fragile frames due to the high risk of breakage. All repairs and adjustments are performed with care, but we cannot be held responsible for damage that may occur during service.
When is the optician available?
Our licensed optician is typically on-site six days a week, usually available from 12 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Since availability can vary, we recommend calling ahead to confirm the optician is on-site and available when you plan to stop by.
Most repairs take time. Please be prepared to leave your eyeglasses with us, and if possible, bring a backup pair of glasses or contact lenses in the meantime.
Can you put my existing lenses into a new frame?
Yes, in most cases we can. While your options are somewhat limited — because the new frame must be similar in size and shape to your original one — we carry over 1,000 frames in stock, so chances are high we’ll find a great fit.
Once we find a suitable frame, we’ll need to shave or cut down your existing lenses to fit. This service costs $50 and typically takes anywhere from a few hours to 2 days, depending on the complexity and our workload.
Can I bring my own frame and order lenses through you?
Yes! You’re welcome to bring your own frame, and we’ll be happy to order new lenses for it.
However, please note:
- Some frames brought in by clients — such as over-the-counter readers or fashion eyewear — may not be optical-quality and could break during the lens installation process.
- If you’re ordering high-end lenses like progressive or transition lenses, our team will evaluate the frame and advise you of any potential risks. The final decision will be up to you.
Do you replace temples (arms) on eyeglasses?
Yes, we offer temple (arm) replacements.
Please keep in mind:
- We do not carry matching parts for every model, so this is often a temporary fix using the closest match from our collection of spare parts.
- We can replace temples on Ray-Ban frames, but only if the original part is available from the manufacturer.
Can you solder broken eyeglasses or sunglasses?
Yes, we offer soldering services for broken metal eyeglasses and sunglasses.
- The service is performed by a trusted external vendor
- The cost is $95
- Turnaround time is typically about one week
Do you tint lenses?
Yes, we offer lens tinting services, but only for clients who have purchased their lenses through us.
We can:
- Tint clear lenses
- Darken an existing tint
- Lighten an existing tint
We do not tint lenses purchased elsewhere, as we cannot guarantee the lens material or how it will respond. There is a risk of damage, and we want to avoid that for your safety and satisfaction.
