Our mission is to bring high-quality vision care to the community, blending expert knowledge with stylish, functional eyewear. But the journey to creating EYES.NYC didn’t happen overnight—it’s the result of over 20 years of experience and passion for the optical industry.

Aleks, the founder of EYES.NYC, began his career in 1998 when he earned his optician license, and throughout his extensive career, he has worked with renowned optical establishments such as Robert Marc and Euro Optica, servicing celebrity and high profile clients. Working with such exclusive and, at times, demanding clientele honed Aleks’ impeccable attention to detail and precision, especially when it comes to lens edging, measurements and glasses adjustments. His journey eventually led him to co-own optical ventures across Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the Bronx. This experience gave him invaluable insight into the diverse optical and vision care needs of clients from all walks of life.

In 2017, Aleks found himself at a professional crossroads, reflecting on the next steps in his career. It was then that the idea of opening his own store in Brooklyn emerged—a space where he could apply all of his accumulated knowledge and expertise, making this new venture truly his own creation.

The search for the perfect location began, and this journey alone took almost a year. With countless considerations, meetings with realtors, and space planning, Aleks explored various options along Flatbush Ave and Fulton St, but nothing seemed right. Then, by accident, 1511 Fulton St caught his eye. Although it wasn’t listed for rent, the location was ideal. Determined, Aleks tracked down the owner and approached them about renting the first floor. Miraculously, a deal was closed in under two weeks.

Previously a Golden Crust Restaurant, the space at 1511 Fulton St needed a complete overhaul to transform it into an optical and optometry center. Fortunately, the contractor team managed to complete the renovation in about three months. One unforgettable highlight of the project? Discovering a walk-in freezer in the basement filled with hundreds of pounds of rotten shrimp! Despite the hurdles, the doors officially opened on August 8th, 2018.

Believe it or not, EYES.NYC is actually the third name!

Timeline showing the evolution of a brand with three names: Eyeconix in 2018, Eyeman in 2019, and EYES.NYC in 2022. The caption reads '3 names, 1 mission – to bring you superior eyewear and service, evolving with every step.

The store was initially named Eyeconix, which seemed like a fantastic choice—until Aleks discovered that a similar name, “Eyeconic,” was patented by a large vision insurance carrier. To avoid any legal issues, a new name was needed. “Eyeman” was the next contender, and after a quick search of the patent database, it seemed like a safe bet. Ironically, soon after the rebranding, Aleks received a letter threatening legal action from an independent optical shop in Manhattan called “The Eyeman”—a name that hadn’t appeared in the earlier search!

Determined to get it right this time, Aleks enlisted the help of a patent attorney. After all, it wasn’t feasible to keep spending money on new signs and marketing materials! And so, on the third attempt, EYES.NYC was born—proving that sometimes, the third time really is the charm.

At the heart of Aleks’ business strategy are four core principles:
